September 20, 2011

Dear Parishioner,

As we prepare to launch this year’s Every Member Canvass and the critical work to ensure operating dollars are available to support our Emmanuel community and mission, we are reminded that we are all called upon to do God’s work. All that we do here at this wonderful place we call Emmanuel is done with grateful hearts and in service to God.   In that spirit, this year’s canvass has been named “Blessed:  abundantly, everyday”.

On Sunday, September 25, please join us at Adult Forum where we will explore – together – what “Blessed: abundantly, everyday” means to members of the Emmanuel community.

We invite you to a fun-filled dinner on Saturday, October 8 at 6:00 p.m. to celebrate all that we have and all that we offer.  Please contact Clark Hotaling at 314-918-8561 if you need to purchase a ticket.  Your vestry will serve a delicious meal, we will be treated to musical entertainment, and childcare (and a kid-friendly dinner!) will be provided.

On Sunday, October 9 (yes, the next day), you will hear from 3 Parishioners that will deliver the sermon at 8:00, 9:00 and 10:30 a.m., and 5:30 p.m.  They will share what Blessed Abundance here at Emmanuel means to them.

The following Sunday, October 16, Dan’s homily will focus on stewardship.

Finally, on Sunday, October 23, we will have a combined service at 10:00.  Pamela will deliver the sermon, followed by our Ingathering –bringing pledge cards to the altar during the service, concluding our season of stewardship and beginning our preparation for the year ahead.  After the service everyone is encouraged to gather in the dining room for refreshments and fellowship.   .

We invite everyone to take the opportunity to participate fully in this season of stewardship, much as we do during Christmas, Lent, and Easter.  This is the season to reflect on all God has given to each of us, to recognize that we are the hands and feet of Christ in this world, and that the dollars we pledge are a large part of what enables Emmanuel to do the work it does and to be the place we love—this place and these people that are “Blessed:  abundantly, everyday!”

Peace,

Jerre Birdsong, Clark Hotaling and Allison Williams

Please take the time to contemplate and discuss and decide as a family what your response to this year’s Every Member Canvass will be.
